Samoa Joe is a member of the SmackDown roster as of 2017. He has held a total of four championships as he is a 3-time NXT Champion, a record amount of times that the championship has been held, as well as one half of the current reigning WWE Tag Team Champions with Neville.
World Heavyweight Championship contender (2012)
Samoa Joe made his WTX Universe debut on the June 29th 2012 edition of SmackDown in a Fatal 4-Way Match that also featuring debuting superstars D'Angelo Dinero & Bobby Roode as well as the winner of the match, Jeff Hardy.
Joe was given a spot in the 2012 Money in the Bank Ladder Match, however, Shelton Benjamin would go on to win the match. Joe would then quickly get his first championship opportunity at SummerSlam, challenging for the World Heavyweight Championship in a match alongside Brock Lesnar, the two would lose to retaining champion, Eddie Guerrero. Joe had another opportunity at Guerrero but lost again at Night of Champions in a scramble match. At Hell in a Cell, Joe got another championship opportunity, this time for the Intercontinental Championship, however, he lost the match to retaining champion, Zack Ryder.
3-Time NXT Champion & Feud with ECW (2013)
In February, Samoa Joe competed in the Elimination Chamber to become NXT Champion, defeating the former champion Cody Rhodes, as well as Yoshi Tatsu, Tyson Kidd, Alberto Del Rio & Wade Barrett. At WrestleMania II Joe retained the championship against former champion Cody Rhodes. Joe then defended the championship successfully against former world champion CM Punk at Backlash.
Punk and Joe were then scheduled to have a non-title rematch on the May 4th edition of NXT, however, the match was cancelled as both Punk & Joe were ambushed by Rhyno. The next week, Joe was scheduled to face Rhyno with CM Punk as guest referee, however, the main event was once again cancelled when Rhyno attacked both Punk & Joe in the backstage area. At Extreme Rules, Joe defended his championship against both Punk & Rhyno, losing the championship to CM Punk.
Joe invoked his rematch clause the following week on the May 22nd edition of NXT, however, the match was cancelled as Joe was ambushed by Rhyno, Tommy Dreamer, Raven & Punk, leading to the ECW takeover of NXT. At Cyber Sunday, Joe defeated Punk to reclaim the NXT Championship with help from guest referee Rob Van Dam, who was intially involved with ECW, but had decided he did not want to see the brand brought back. At Money in the Bank, Joe lost the championship to Austin Aries.
At Night of Champions, Samoa Joe defeated Austin Aries after guest referee and NXT General Manager Ted DiBiase called for the bell immediately following Joe applying the STF, screwing Aries out of the championship. This was Joe's third NXT Championship victory. However, on the October 2nd edition of NXT, DiBiase then stripped Joe of the championship, claiming that Joe did not earn the championship, Joe was then entered into a championship scramble for the vacant championship, however, the match was won by Sheamus.
At Over The Limit, Joe faced Sheamus in a rematch, however, despite assistance from DiBiase, Joe was unsuccessful in defeating Sheamus.
On February 28th 2016, Samoa Joe made his return after three years to accept the open challenge issued by World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar in the main event of SmackDown, although Joe lost to Lesnar in the match. At No Way Out, Joe competed for the World Heavyweight Championship inside the Elimination Chamber, losing the match. Following the 2016 Draft, Joe was drafted to the Raw brand, he quickly made an impact as a part of Raw as he attacked Cesaro before their match could begin. A match was then announced for Backlash between Cesaro and Samoa Joe. Joe then teamed with Baron Corbin to defeat Cesaro & The Undertaker via countout on the April 25th edition of Raw. At Backlash Joe lost to Cesaro after Cesaro hit him with a Swiss Death Uppercut.
Following Joe's loss, Cesaro was scheduled to face Ric Flair for the Intercontinental Championship, however, Joe attacked Cesaro before the show had begun, cancelling the match. A 6-Man Battle Royal was then scheduled for the May 9th edition of Raw to determine the #1 contender for Flair's Championship. The Battle Royal will feature Joe, Cesaro, Matt Hardy, Luke Harper, Erick Rowan & Tyler Breeze, however, the Battle Royal was won by Matt Hardy.
At Money in the Bank, Joe competed in the Mid Tier Championship Money in the Bank Ladder Match, but was unsuccessful as the match was won by Rey Mysterio. The following night on RAW, Joe competed in a Fatal 4-Way contenders match for the WWE Championship, losing to Tyler Breeze. The following week Joe attacked Neville, claiming that it was Neville's fault that Joe lost to Breeze and the Joe would get revenge against Neville.
At Roadblock, Joe ended his feud with Neville, losing to Neville off of a Suicide Dive in their Last Man Standing Match. On December 28th, Joe defeated Heath Slater to qualify for the 2017 Royal Rumble Match. On February 27th, Joe began venting frustrations that Shawn Michaels was getting another opportunity at the WWE Championship, whilst Joe had never had the chance to face Triple H one-on-one, this lead to a main event match between the two in which Joe ambushed Michaels during his entrance, he then went on to defeat Michaels in rather quick fashion.
Return to SmackDown (2017-present)
On April 2nd 2017, Joe was drafted from RAW to SmackDown as part of the 2017 Draft.
