The NXT Women's Championship is a championship contested for exclusively by the women's division of the NXT brand. The championship was introduced at Survivor Series 2012, in which AJ Lee lost the Diva's Championship to Summer Rae, retiring the Diva's Championship and introducing the NXT Women's Championship, with the women's division being moved to the NXT brand as the roster began to downsize too drastically to maintain its spot on RAW or SmackDown.
History[]
In Season 4 (2012-2013), the womens division saw a continued downsizing, as had been present in each new season, due to this, a decision was made to move the "diva's" division to NXT, renaming it the women's division and introducing a new championship alongside it. It was decided that new Diva's Champion, AJ Lee, would defend the championship a final time at Survivor Series against the former champion, Summer Rae, in a match also for the newly introduced NXT Women's Championship, after which, the division would officially move to the NXT brand.
The original championship design was a rebranding of the original Women's Championship, recoloured silver, to set it apart from its original iteration.
