Following his failure to capture the World Heavyweight Championship, Morrison would go on to form a team with Joey Mercury, the two challenged for the WWE Tag Team Championships at Money in the Bank but were unsuccessful. They would get another championship opportunity at SummerSlam 2012 in a World Tag Team Championship match against champions Jeff & Matt Hardy, The Hardy Boyz in another losing effort.
WWE Tag Team Champion, Split from MNM & Reunion with The Miz (2013-2015)
On January 27th 2013, MNM defeated Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel for the WWE Tag Team Championship. At WrestleMania II, the team lost the championship to D-Generation X, after Morrison walked out on Mercury, calling the match a lost cause. The team officially split following the match.
On the June 3rd edition of NXT, The Miz & John Morrison reunited as a tag team to face Curt Hawkins & Bobby Roode in a contenders match, upon winning, Miz & Morrison became the new contenders for the NXT Tag Team Championship. The following week, Miz & Morrison defeated Sabu & Tommy Dreamer to win the NXT Tag Team Championship. At SummerSlam, Miz & Morrison retained against Sabu & Dreamer again, this time in a Table Match, after Miz put Sabu through a table via Skullcrushing Finale.
The team lost the championships on the September 11th edition of NXT to the newly formed team of Drew McIntyre & Wade Barrett. Morrison later moved to SmackDown to continue teaming with The Miz in 2014.
Draft to NXT (2015)
As part of the 2015 Draft, Morrison was drafted away from his partner The Miz, drafted from SmackDown back to NXT.
In mid 2015, The Miz & Morrison reunited on the NXT brand. At Unforgiven, they challenged for the NXT Tag Team Championship and lost to the champions Son of Havoc & Vance Archer. On July 29th, Miz & Morrison got another opportunity, winning the championship.
In early 2016, Morrison changed his name again, now to Johnny Mundo. After failing to regain the NXT Tag Team Championship with The Miz, Mundo quietly moved to singles competition, facing and defeating X-Pac on the February 27th edition of Main Event, the last time Mundo competed in a match until May 18th, in which Mundo lost to Fenix in a #1 contenders match for the Cruiserweight Championship on NXT. At Money in the Bank, Mundo competed in the Tertiary Championship Money in the Bank Ladder Match, but was unsuccessful as the match was won by Hideo Itami. Mundo was entered into a Four for Fortune for the Cruiserweight Championship on July 6th, being first eliminated from the chase by Jeff Hardy off of a Twist of Fate.
On the January 18th edition of NXT, Morrison returned to action to defeat Sami Zayn to qualify for the 2017 Royal Rumble Match. However, due to Morrison pinning the United States Champion, he was then also granted a match against Zayn at the event for the United States Championship as well. At Royal Rumble, Morrison was unable to win the championship however, losing to Zayn via pinfall following a Helluva Kick.
On April 2nd 2017, Morrison was drafted from ECW to SmackDown as part of the 2017 Draft.
