John Cena is a member of the SmackDown roster as of 2012, where he is the current World Heavyweight Champion. Throughout his career, Cena is also a 3-time WWE Champion, a former Intercontinental Champion, as well as the final ECW Television Champion.

Career[]

Debut, The Crew & WWE Championship Reigns (2010-2011)[]

John Cena made his debut on the January 7th edition of Superstars, defeating Shelton Benjamin in the opening match. Cena then made his SmackDown debut on the January 22nd edition, teaming with Big Show and The Undertaker in the main event, defeating the team of Randy Orton, CM Punk & Edge.

The next week on SmackDown, Cena was given his biggest opportunity yet, facing and losing to Big Show in a Steel Cage Match in which the winner would qualify for the World Heavyweight Championship match at Elimination Chamber. The following week Cena lost a second chance match to once again qualify for the chamber match.

Cena competed in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match at WrestleMania, losing to Jack Swagger. On April 2nd, Cena competed in a contenders match for the WWE Championship, losing to The Undertaker. On April 30th, Cena revealed that he was the one who attacked The Undertaker at Extreme Rules in the parking lot, stating it was revenge for Undertaker attacking Cena before their contenders match on April 2nd. Later in the show, Cena helped Undertaker defeat Alberto Del Rio, after which, he attacked Undertaker with a steel pipe. He then went on to defeat The Rock in the main event to be named the new contender to the WWE Championship for Over the Limit, after which he was attacked by Del Rio. On April 7th, Cena finally faced Undertaker one-on-one, attacking him pre-match and winning the match via countout. The next week, the two faced off again in a Falls Count Anywhere Match, with Undertaker getting the win. At Over the Limit, despite a pre-match attack from The Undertaker, Cena defeated Christian to win the WWE Championship which marks Cena's first championship victory.

Cena was informed on the May 28th edition of SmackDown that he would be defending his championship for the first time at Fatal 4-Way in a 4-Way match against The Undertaker, former champion Christian and Stone Cold. At the event, Cena lost the championship when he was eliminated by Stone Cold, who went on to win the WWE Championship. Following his championship loss, Cena targetted The Undertaker, who was returning from injury, re-injuring him before potentially aligning himself with Mark Henry, who defeated Undertaker on that night. The following week, Cena defeated The Undertaker with interference from Mark Henry prior to the match, as well as Cena using a Steel Chair on Undertaker and hitting him with two finishers. After the match, Undertaker was helped out of the ring by doctors on a stretcher, during which Cena attacked Undertaker again, knocking him off of the stretcher. Later in the night, Cena won a Battle Royal to be named the contender to the WWE Championship at Money in the Bank. At the event, Cena lost the championship match to retaining champion Stone Cold after interference from The Miz. On July 23rd, Cena once again faced the injured Undertaker, who teamed with Sin Cara to lose to the team of R-Truth and Cena. On August 27th, Cena competed in another contenders match for the WWE Championship, this time against Husky Harris, however, the match ended in a no-contest result after Vader attacked both men to close the show. On September 24th, Cena declared himself the "undisputed" contender to the WWE Championship after being screwed out of an opportunity for the title by Vader the month prior, with champion Austin accepting to set up their match for Hell in a Cell. At the event, Cena never actually faced Austin, as he began fighting him before the bell rung, after which Christian ran-in and joined Cena, this led to The Miz & John Morrison making the save but quickly turning on Austin, after which The Miz cashed-in his Money in the Bank briefcase to defeat Austin for the WWE Championhip. The following Friday on SmackDown, Cena was called out for his actions by The Crew, who felt that he had betrayed them. Cena stated that he did it because he had to help Miz, as he didn't know if anyone could beat Stone Cold, plus, Miz offered him an instant shot at the championship in return. Cena then got in Henry's face, telling him to "never call him out like a punk-ass bitch." Before Cena's title shot with Miz in the main event, Cena was seen being attacked by Henry in the parking lot, who smashed Cena face-first through a car window before backing off. Cena returned three weeks later, helping Eddie Guerrero defeat Mark Henry with a chair shot, after which, Cena was announced to be teaming with Guerrero & Rey Mysterio at Survivor Series to take on The Crew. The next week, Cena picked up a return victory over Booker T. At Survivor Series, Cena eliminated 2 out of 3 members of The Crew, with his team defeated The Crew in a 3-0 sweep.

On December 10th, Cena defeated Mark Henry to qualify for a TLC Intercontinental Championship match at the upcoming TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs. At the event, Cena lost to the retaining champion, John Morrison.

On February 4th, Cena was revealed as one of the participants in the 2011 WWE Championship Elimination Chamber match. At the event, Cena won the WWE Championship for the second time, last eliminating champion The Miz. On March 1st, Cena faced Miz in a rematch, ending in no contest when, as The Miz was about to get potentially the winning pinfall, The Undertaker interfered and chokeslammed Cena through the announce table. It was then confirmed that Cena would defend against Undertaker at WrestleMania II. At the event, Cena lost the championship to The Undertaker in a competitive matchup. At Extreme Rules, Cena got a rematch with Undertaker for the WWE Championship, with outside assistance from The Legacy, Cena defeated Undertaker and defected to RAW as WWE Champion.

Move to RAW & Feud with Mark Henry (2011-2012)[]

On May 2nd, Cena made his RAW debut as WWE Champion, scheduled to defend against Randy Orton in the main event. However, Kane made his return, donning a new look, he violently attacked Cena to close out the show. At Over the Limit, Cena finally defended against Randy Orton, who ended Cena's third reign as WWE Champion. On June 13th, Cena faced Kane in a Money in the Bank Ladder Match qualifier, with the match ending via time limit draw, Cena was severely injured coming out of the match. However, on July 4th, Cena made a surprise return, losing a Money in the Bank qualifier. After another few months inactive, Cena returned to action at Night of Champions in mid-September, aligning himself with Mr. McMahon as he challenged former ally Booker T for his Intercontinental Championship in what was Booker's third defense of the night. The match saw Booker retain against Cena when Wade Barrett interfered, seemingly in the corner of Cena, only to distract him and cost Cena the match. At Vengeance, Cena defeated Booker T and Barrett as well as Antonio Cesaro to capture both the Intercontinental Championship and to be named the final ECW Television Champion.

On December 5th, Cena was scheduled to defend his Intercontinental Championship against The Miz, however, The Miz last-minute gave his shot to Justin Gabriel in an act of remorse for their past issues, Miz then helped Gabriel in defeating Cena for the Intercontinental Championship. The following week, Cena was paired with long-time rival Mark Henry to face Miz & Gabriel in a tag team match. Prior to the match, The Rock approached Cena backstage, warning him that McMahon would likely abandon him as he did Rock. Cena warned Rock to stay out of his business and that no matter what happened, he doesn't want anyone's help. In the main event, Henry attacked Cena before Miz or Gabriel made their entrance, brutalizing Cena to close out the show. Cena made his return a couple weeks later, costing Henry a match against Gabriel for the Intercontinental Championship. The next week, Cena faced Henry in the main event of RAW, with Henry dealing with underlying injuries heading into the match, the match was incredible short lived and Henry was given time off to recover from enduring further injuries, temporarily ending their feud.

In February, Cena defeated Wade Barrett to qualify for a special match at St. Valentine's Day Massacre in which the winner would get a shot at whichever world championship the Royal Rumble winner did not pick, the event saw Cena lose this match to The Rock in the main event. On March 5th, Cena came out to cut a promo on RAW, stating he needed a match at WrestleMania III, he began to issue a challenge for a rematch for the Intercontinental Championship, however, he was interrupted by Mark Henry who attacked him from behind, it was later confirmed the two would face off at WrestleMania III. At the event, the two fought to the 20-minute time limit, ending in a draw.

Return to SmackDown & World Heavyweight Champion (2012)[]

The night after WrestleMania III, Cena was drafted back to SmackDown as part of the 2012 WWE Draft. Cena quickly continued his feud with Henry after their WrestleMania draw, with Henry also being drafted to SmackDown. On May 18th, Cena defeated Triple H in a non-title match, to be named a potential contender to the World Heavyweight Championship. At Over the Limit, Cena competed in a 4-Way Match for the championship, losing to Triple H.

At TLC, Cena defeated Triple H in a Ladder Match to earn a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship at the upcoming Royal Rumble event. At the event, Cena defeated The Great Khali to win his first World Heavyweight Championship, his fourth world championship overall.
