This was the second Elimination Chamber event to take place within the WTX Universe, with the first taking place back in 2012. The show featured seven matches, of which all were hosted only by the SmackDown brand. The show is the follow up to the Royal Rumble event at the end of January and will be followed by Fastlane at the start of March.
The first match of the event to be set up was set on the January 24th edition of SmackDown, with Jade returning to action after being absent for the latter half of 2016, defeating Taya to earn a rematch at the SmackDown Women's Championship that she lost to Alexa Bliss over 20 weeks ago before taking a short leave.
The second match to be set for the event was the WWE Tag Team Championship Match, as The Usos accepted an open challenge from The Revival for the championship on the January 24th edition of SmackDown, this match saw The Revival attack The Uso's prior to the match and get a quick, unfair victory against the challengers, because of this, a rematch has been set between the two at Elimination Chamber with a bonus Ladder Match stipulation.
The third match of the event to be scheduled was the Elimination Chamber main event, with new World Heavyweight Champion Baron Corbin defeating Bobby Roode for the championship at Royal Rumble, Roode was initially scheduled for a rematch, however, Roode has gone on indefinite hiatus upon his loss, leaving all five spaces in the chamber open. The first three participants were confirmed on the February 7th edition of SmackDown as AJ Styles, who had been feuding with Corbin heading into the event, as well as Finn Balor, who has been a top star of SmackDown throughout 2016, and John Cena who was the runner up of the 2017 Royal Rumble event. The final two spots were determined on the February 14th edition of SmackDown, with Rey Mysterio & Dolph Ziggler both qualifying after defeating The Great Destroyer & Tyler Breeze in a tag team match.
The fourth match was set when Bobby Lashley, who returned at the Royal Rumble match, attacked Apollo Crews on the February 7th edition of SmackDown, Crews retaliated and stated that as a fighting champion, he's more than happy to give Lashley a shot at his Global Championship at the Elimination Chamber event, later in the show, the fifth match was also set when Lashley won the WTX Championship in an open challenge from Hideo Itami, setting up a rematch between Lashley and Itami for the WTX Championship, meaning Lashley will be competing in two different matches on the show.
The sixth match was determined on the February 14th edition of SmackDown, as Lita initially issued an open challenge for the event, as she had been venting frustrations by attacking members of the SmackDown womens division, namely Trish Stratus, however, later in the night she attacked Stratus again, making it clear that she wanted a match between the two at the event, it was later announced that Stratus would indeed face Lita at Elimination Chamber.
In the shows opener, Bobby Lashley quickly retained the WTX Championship against the 2017 Royal Rumble winner Hideo Itami, pinning him off of a Spear. The second match of the show saw a competitive matchup between Trish Stratus and Lita, won by Stratus who hit Lita with a second Stratusfaction. The third match of the show saw Alexa Bliss retain the SmackDown Women's Championship against Jade, pinning her off of her Twisted Bliss finisher. In the fourth match, Tye Dillinger retained the Hardcore Championship when he hit his Tye Breaker finisher on Diego to get the pinfall on the outside.
The fifth match of the event saw another retention as The Revival defeated The Uso's, the steel cage match saw Dash Wilder & Jimmy Uso both quickly escape the cage, leading to a competitive match between Jey Uso and Scott Dawson, with Dawson working the legs of Jey Uso, preventing Uso from being able to escape the cage and win the match and ultimately leading to Dawson winning. In the semi-main event, Lashley defeated Apollo Crews to win the Global Championship, pinning him off of the Dominator and becoming the first man in several years to hold multiple championships at once. In the main event, AJ Styles won his second world championship, last eliminating Finn Balor and playing a huge contributing factor in eliminating then-champion, Baron Corbin.
