Debut and formation of Team D-Z (2012)
Dolph Ziggler made his WTX Universe debut on the February 10th 2012 edition of SmackDown in a 3 on 1 Handicap Match in which he teamed with Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase Jr. in a losing effort to 2012 Royal Rumble winner, Edge.
Ziggler would compete on SmackDown for many months losing and winning a decent balance of matches until he was drafted to Raw as part of the 2012 WWE Draft. Ziggler went on a win streak and then debuted a new team, Team D-Z, with Daniel Bryan. The team lost their first match to another newly formed team that consisted of Justin Gabriel & Tyson Kidd.
Despite being on Raw the team were given a shot at David Otunga & Michael McGillicutty's WWE Tag Team Championship at Extreme Rules (which is SmackDown's tag championship), D-Z went on to win the match beginning their first reign as champions.
Team D-Z defended their championships for the first time at Over The Limit against a fan voted team of Justin Gabriel & Tyson Kidd in a TLC Match in which D-Z retained their championships. They would then also defend their championships against John Morrison & Joey Mercury at Money in the Bank. Team D-Z defended their championships for the last time against Gabriel & Kidd in an Over The Limit rematch at SummerSlam where Ziggler & Bryan would finally lose their tag team championships to the challengers.
Team D-Z would then pursue the World Tag Team Championship, held by The Hardy Boyz, at Night of Champions the teams faced off, however, the match ended in a no contest. The two had a rematch at Bragging Rights, with Team D-Z winning the World Tag Team Championship. The championships were then switched for Awesome Truth's WWE Tag Team Championship to apply the correct championships to the correct brands.
Team D-Z would then lose the WWE Tag Team Championship to Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel at Survivor Series. At Survivor Series, Ziggler was the only Team RAW member elminated in the Team RAW vs. Team NXT match.
World Tag Team Champion with Daniel Bryan, Split, Money in the Bank Winner & WWE Champion (2013)
At WrestleMania II, Team D-Z won their fourth championship, defeating New Age Outlaws in a Steel Cage Match. As part of the 2013 Supplemental Draft, Ziggler was drafted from SmackDown to RAW, seperating him from tag partner Bryan. The team continued to hold the championship, unable to defend them or team up until Extreme Rules, in which Team D-Z lost the championship to The Nation of Domination.
Following the loss, the team began to drift apart, becoming singles wrestlers. Ziggler quickly found success at the 2013 Money in the Bank event, where he won the Money in the Bank Ladder Match, earning a World Championship Match of his choosing at any time for a full year.
On August 26th, Ziggler returned to RAW, congratulating former partner Daniel Bryan for his victory over former WWE Champion Dean Ambrose, however, Bryan appeared reluctant and confused at Zigglers support.
At Night of Champions, after Bryan failed to defeat Edge for the WWE Championship, Dolph Ziggler cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase and defeated Edge to become WWE Champion for the first time. Ziggler quickly lost the championship at Over The Limit to Daniel Bryan via submission. Two weeks later at Hell in a Cell, Ziggler defeated Bryan inside Hell in a Cell to regain the WWE Championship, putting his feet on the ropes following a ZigZag for the win. At Survivor Series, the two faced off for the last time in their rivalry in a 2 out of 3 Falls Match, with Ziggler retaining 2-0 against Bryan. At TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs, Ziggler lost the championship to Randy Orton in a TLC Match. At No Way Out, Ziggler got a rematch insde of the Elimination Chamber, being eliminated by Kane following a Chokeslam.
On November 17th, Ziggler defeated Christopher Daniels to qualify for Team RAW at Survivor Series. At Vengeance, Team D-Z reunited for one-night-only once again after Bryan insisted the team needed to reunite whilst Ziggler was hesitant, the two lost to Rated RKO, preventing Ziggler from any further interest in reuniting. At King of the Ring, Ziggler competed in the King of the Ring Tournament, being eliminated in the first round by Bo Dallas.
