Career

Team D-Z, WWE Tag Team Champion & WWE Champion (2012)

Daniel Bryan made his WTX Universe debut on the April 23rd 2012 edition of Raw, teaming with Dolph Ziggler as one half of newly formed team, Team D-Z. The team lost to another debuting team, the combination of Justin Gabriel & Tyson Kidd.

Despite being on Raw the team were given a shot at David Otunga & Michael McGillicutty's WWE Tag Team Championship at Extreme Rules (which is SmackDown's tag championship), D-Z went on to win the match beginning their first reign as champions.

Team D-Z defended their championships for the first time at Over The Limit against a fan voted team of Justin Gabriel & Tyson Kidd in a TLC Match in which D-Z retained their championships.

At Over The Limit a Armaggeddon Hell in a Cell Match took place that featured WWE Champion CM Punk defend his championship against Daniel Bryan, Shawn Michaels, Batista, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin & The Rock. The match ended with Bryan making Michaels submit, ending Punk's 112 day WWE Championship reign.

Bryan's reign lasted no longer than a month however, as Bryan was set to defend his WWE Championship against Raw's top stars in Batista, Stone Cold & Shawn Michaels. The match ended with Stone Cold defeating Bryan to become WWE Champion. Bryan would not hold another WWE Championship until 2013.

Bryan would compete twice at Money in the Bank as he attempted to regain his WWE Championship from Stone Cold but was unsuccessful, however, earlier in the night Bryan teamed with Ziggler to defend their WWE Tag Team Championships, in which they defeated John Morrison & Joey Mercury. Team D-Z defended their championships for the last time against Gabriel & Kidd in an Over The Limit rematch at SummerSlam where Ziggler & Bryan would finally lose their tag team championships to the challengers.

Team D-Z would then pursue the World Tag Team Championship, held by The Hardy Boyz, at Night of Champions the teams faced off, however, the match ended in a no contest. The two had a rematch at Bragging Rights, with Team D-Z winning the World Tag Team Championship. The championships were then switched for Awesome Truth's WWE Tag Team Championship to apply the correct championships to the correct brands.

Team D-Z would then lose the WWE Tag Team Championship to Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel at Survivor Series.

World Tag Team Champion with Dolph Ziggler & Second WWE Championship Reign (2013-2014)

At WrestleMania II, Team D-Z won their fourth championship, defeating New Age Outlaws in a Steel Cage Match. As part of the 2013 Supplemental Draft, Bryan was then drafted away from his partner Ziggler, as he was drafted to NXT. The team continued to hold the championship, unable to defend them or team up until Extreme Rules, in which Team D-Z lost the championship to The Nation of Domination.

Later in the year, both Bryan & Ziggler returned to RAW, however, as singles stars. On the August 26th edition of RAW, Bryan defeatd former WWE Champion Dean Ambrose, leading to him now pursuing the WWE Championship. Following his victory he was congratulated by former partner Dolph Ziggler, however, Bryan appeared confused and reluctant to Ziggler's interest in his former partner.

At Night of Champions, Bryan challenged and failed to defeat Edge for the WWE Championship. Following which, Ziggler cashed in his Money in the Bank on Edge to win the championship. At Over The Limit, Edge & Bryan challenged Ziggler for the championship, with Bryan forcing Ziggler to submit to win his second WWE Championship. Bryan lost the championship two weeks later at Hell in a Cell back to Ziggler, after Ziggler used the ropes to win. At Survivor Series, the two faced off for the last time in their rivalry in a 2 out of 3 Falls Match, with Ziggler retaining 2-0 against Bryan. At No Way Out, Bryan challenged for the championship again, being eliminated by Ziggler via rollup.

At WrestleMania III, Team D-Z reunited for one-night-only, losing in a TLC Match to the World Tag Team Champions, The Disciples of Darkness.

On September 1st, Bryan challenged Triple H for the World Heavyweight Championship, however, he was unsuccessful in winning the match. At Vengeance, Team D-Z reunited for one-night-only once again after Bryan insisted the team needed to reunite whilst Ziggler was hesitant, the two lost to Rated RKO, preventing Ziggler from any further interest in reuniting.

RAW (2015)

At King of the Ring, Bryan competed in the King of the Ring Tournament, losing in the first round to James Storm.

SmackDown, Draft to NXT & NXT Champion (2016)

At No Way Out, Bryan resurfaced from inactivity to face Sami Zayn in a contenders match for the United States Championship in which Bryan lost to Zayn. On March 24th, Bryan won a Fatal 4-Way Match to qualify for the Money in the Bank Ladder Match at WrestleMania V.  On April 4th as part of the 2016 Draft, Bryan was drafted to NXT, he made his debut on June 15th, after being frustrated with his under-utilization, Bryan demanded he have a match. He was placed into a match with Bray Wyatt, in which, Bryan lost to Wyatt. Bryan continued to vent his frustration leading to a match with Bad News Barrett on July 6th, however, Barrett attacked Bryan before the match to get an early advantage and win the match, further causing issues between Bryan and NXT General Manager William Regal.

The Nexus (2016-present)

On December 15th, Bryan, who was scheduled to face Pentagon Jr. in the main event of NXT, assaulted both NXT General Manager William Regal backstage, as well as Pentagon's mentor, Vampiro. He then said that after being pushed around by Regal's management, he had decided to form a rebellion, consisting of people who had been wronged during their NXT tenures. The group were revealed to be named The Nexus, with the first three members assisting Bryan in a four on one main event against Pentagon. The three revealed members, Wade Barrett (who had been fired after failing Regal earlier in the year), Ryback (who had been shoved to the bottom of the NXT ranks and released earlier in the year), and Corey Graves (who had been treated unfairly since losing the NXT Championship in 2014), were given new NXT contracts, as Regal felt he had something to prove to try and stop the group. Bryan later confirmed that there were a total of eight members, and that they would all band together to get retribution on everyone who had crossed them or been treated better than they have.

At New Years Revolution, Bryan was unsuccessful in reclaiming the NXT Championship, as he was eliminated first from the Elimination Chamber by champion Bray Wyatt off of a Running Senton. On the following episode of NXT, Daniel Bryan defeated Kevin Owens in the main event to qualify for the 2017 Royal Rumble Match.

On April 2nd 2017, Bryan was drafted from ECW to SmackDown as part of the 2017 Draft. Seperating him and Corey Graves from the rest of The Nexus, who were all drafted to RAW.
